I never really got to know my great grandmother personally even though I saw her frequently throughout my childhood because she had Alzheimer's. The effect that this disease has on the friends and family members of the people stricken with Alzheimer's is difficult to describe to those who haven't experienced it first hand. Alzheimer's Disease is a form of dementia that is progressive and fatal, and as of yet there is no cure. Being able to support the Alzheimer's Association means a great deal to me. They were there to help support my family, and my Memaw continues to work for their organization as a volunteer.
